NCIC, MP calls on political parties to bar chaotic aspirants from running

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has called upon political parties to fine, charge and bar politicians from vying for any elective seat if found inciting youth to ensure peace prevails and there is political tolerance throughout the country.

Speaking in Ruiru sub-county where Nominated MP Isaac Mwaura sponsored a football tournament meant to sensitize the youth to maintain peace, Prof. Gitile Naituli a NCIC Commissioner said that they have a mandate to tame hate speech and other chaos inciting utterances.

Naituli, who condemned the recent chaos experienced in Gatundu South where a former MP Moses Muia was attacked by youth affiliated to the incumbent Moses Kuria, added that they have taken the necessary measures to ensure there is peace in this electioneering year.

“We condemn the act strongly and we want to assure the members of public that we are ready for anything that might arise this electioneering period. We have trained police and our officials on how to report and deal with hate and inciting utterances by politicians across the country.

He added that politicians should preach peace instead of using the youth in disrupting other people’s meetings and inciting them to cause violence saying that the election is just there for a season and it is not a crisis to the country.

Nominated MP Isaac Mwaura who is seeking the Ruiru parliamentary seat said that Kiambu is affected by political temperatures which according to him are arising from the gubernatorial race which is highly contested.

Mwaura said that there is need to have free and fair nominations to ensure peace prevails citing the incident at Busia where the battle for the ODM ticket led to chaos.

He called upon the Jubilee party leadership to ensure there are no malpractices in the nominations on Friday to ensure the will of the people is heard and called upon youths in Ruiru to maintain peace.

He said that Ruiru is a metropolitan area and cautioned the residents and leaders against divisive politics.
