Kenyans urged to report domestic violence incidences for help

Men and women who suffer gender based violence across the country have been urged to come out and report the cases to ensure they get the necessary help.

According to Consolata Muuru a business woman and an anti-domestic violence campaigner, people suffer in their marriages and relationships silently until it gets to the worst stage where some experience depression or even death.

Mrs. Muuru said that there’s need to open up and share stories so that those experiencing the violence can be accorded the help they deserve.

“Kenyans have been suffering silently and it has come a time when we need to open up and talk about this menace because it’s consuming our children, brothers, sisters, mothers and husbands. Let’s seek help for such problems,” she said.

She said that it is time people condemn the domestic violence acts at all costs as it has been claiming lives in the recent past.

She added that men are suffering mostly nowadays into their wives hands and suffer silently due to fear of intimidation.

“Men are the most affected by this problem and they are afraid of talking about for fear of intimidation and am telling them to stopping shying off from the problem because it will kill them eventually or leave them with permanent bruises,” she added.

Muuru said that she already forgave the man that killed her daughter who they had been in a relationship with for several months despite the man having another family, a wife and a kid.

Her deceased daughter, who was living in Belgium, was murdered by her boyfriend after a long time struggle silently where she was being brutally tortured and subjected to domestic violence.

She urged the government to intervene and support the domestic violence victims by setting up a kitty like they have been doing with other calamities.
