Kenyans advised to scrutinize investments before pursuing them

Kenyans have been called upon to take caution while pursuing any kind of investment due to the increased scam incidences by conmen and rogue firms.

Samuel Maina, the Urithi Housing Cooperative Society Chairman, said that there is need to educate the members of public on possible ways of identifying genuine investments to avoid falling prey to the scammers.

Maina said that in this era, there are a lot of con people who the public should be wary of and called on Kenyans to avoid shortcuts in any kind of business transactions as the scammers use shortcuts to con people who want to make quick money and get rich fast.

“It is always good to use the laid down procedure in pursuing any kind of investments or conducting business. Those who want simple and fast business mostly fall prey to the fraudsters and lose their valuables,” he said.

Addressing the press from his office, Maina called upon the people and mostly their members to do thorough scrutiny on any kind of investments they are interested in calling upon them to indulge into a fact finding mission before purchasing anything.

He added that real estate’s business has been a victim of scam in the recent past and requires members of public to make searches of pieces of land they want to buy to prove if they really exists and if they are genuine before reaching a deal.

“Before you strike any deal with real estate’s companies or individuals, make sure you conduct a search of the said piece of land and prove whether it really exists by their names. Then you can strike a deal with the seller if the project is genuine from the facts you have found,” Maina advised.

The Chairman also called upon the members of public to investigate the respective companies they engage with as some of them are not registered while others don’t file their returns and thus might close down anytime if found out to be absconding their responsibility.

He added, “Physical addresses of companies’ offices are also a key character of their work. When you have complaints, questions or comments it’s easier when done through the respective offices rather than complaining on social media and creating bad image of companies.”
